My Favorite Writing Exercise and my favorite place in NYC

My favorite writing exercise, is that in the morning when I wake up, the first person I see I have to turn them into a character in the story that I am writing

My favorite place in NYC is the botanical Garden.

I find the aforementioned writing exercise to have potential. I personally enjoy receiving inspiration from people around me and those who I meet, so I would recommend this exercise to anyone in a writing jam. The only problem I can see is the first person that you see may be a bit dull and uninteresting.

Don't get me wrong -- I like the exercise as well, but I also believe that every story that we, as writers, tell should have a purpose. Therefore, it is very important for our characters to be intriguing in some capacity, and that is simply what I was alluding to.

This was a good writing exercise and a little funny. I think it's a good idea to write about people we know nothing about, and just know their physical appearance. Once I wrote a whole story about this sad frumpy nurse I saw eating a Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwhich on the F train.
